Genie



"You ain't never had a friend like me"

Today in Psychology we learned about Genie, the "wild child" or "feral child".

She grew up without any human contact except her parents giving her food. She was rescued after 13 years and was able to learn how to speak after the supposed "window of opportunity" for learning language. It's an incredible story, and yet so sad that her parents would keep her locked in her room for 13 straight years because they feared she was retarded, but in reality, she was kept from learning anything at all.
